This saturday a friend of mine bugged me to join a get-together on IRC, where games are supposed to be made in only 2 hours. No strings attached. I’m talking about nothing less than the
Klik of the month Klub (#34) over at glorioustrainwrecks.com.

I’ve actually been a bit more busy than usual this december and worked on a little puzzle platformer as a side-project. Just in time for Christmas, I have a first public beta ready. It’s called Sky/Limit and you can check it out now on Game Jolt.

The last few months were pretty much an affair of doing tiny little things on various projects, seemingly leading nowhere. That period might just be over now, as I have settled on a serious project to work on. The headline of this post says it all.

So this game is called GIEP! You’re playing as a little boy who is lost in a strange land and has to explore this unknown world in order to get home to his grandparents.You’ll have to learn a lot on your way. Like how to double-jump and how to use a rifle. Otherwise you will end up as prey for the wild creatures roaming the land or get killed by a vicious trap.

While I do have created a very rough version of the engine, I’m at the moment in the process of making a level editor. This is the first time I’m actually bothering to do so, because for the scope of this project it would be more of a chore to put everything together directly in the layout editor of Construct. That’s according to me at least.

I’m pretty confident you’ll be seeing more of GIEP soon. Wish me luck!

Slasher Boy revisited

It’s that time of the year again: scary costumes, carved pumpkins and partying. And look who’s also back – that darn Slasher Boy. This time he has gamepad support, customizable controls and all kinds of tweaks and improvements. I present you SLASHER BOY HALLOWEEN DEMO 2nd EDITION!

So whatever happened to remaking this from scratch into a full and more polished game? Well, it’s still in the cards. Although there are just a little spritework and some concepts done for the reboot. Maybe the project will gather steam now that I spent a few hours with the old version. Fingers crossed!

Summer is silly

And summer is hot. Lately it has been too hot to spend too much time in front of the computer. And as everybody knows: outdoors activities are boring.

So right in this unfortunate time there was the GameJolt demake competition. I didn’t really hate the theme, so I tried to prepare an entry. Of course I ultimately failed.

But for a lack of other things to show let me just share some impressions from INSOMNIA DRACULA, what was supposed to be a Hasslevania demake (more screens after the break).

And in case you don’t know what Hasslevania is supposed to be: it’s a very cool Castlevania homage/spoof kind of game made by Del Duio / DXF Games. It’s worth checking out!

Welcome to my annual post!

I want to ramble a bit about random stuff I have been doing. Like for example a tiny pixels megaman fangame (I figured since everybody is doing it and a certain someone dared me too…), but with a darker and twisted theme.

Oh, and how about a sidescrolling horror adventure? It would be a fun thing to do as a collaboration. Could meet ugly hellspawn like the following…

Also I’ve been discovering the fact that there is a third dimension and you can use it to create things that aren’t flat. It’s a little miracle to me. And as a rookie I’m trying to do some sculpting (all hail Dr. Petter’s Sculptris!).

That would pretty much sum it up. Just never ask for results and we may get along fine.

Christmas is over already and I hope you all had a good one. In case you missed it, there’s a special Christmas greeting from me in the current video episode of klikcast over at The Daily Click. Slasher Boy really has been a bad boy this year…

More importantly (and I know it’s old news but I didn’t even mention it here yet) my game Slasher Boy Halloween Demo did win the TDC Halloween Competition 2009. Yay!You still haven’t played this top-ranking game? Shame on you: Go here.

You should still be expecting an updated version of the Slasher Boy Demo some time soonish. It’ll include at least one more stage, additional enemies and a freakin’ special attack. Time to get excited. ;=)

If anything else fails, I’m stuck with wishing you a happy new year. Don’t blow up too much money while you’re celebrating. See you all in 2010!

Slasher Boy is a game I created for the THE DAILY CLICK HALLOWEEN COMPETITION 2009. It’s a retro-style platformer with a horror theme. While still rough around the edges, it’s playable and even offers a boss fight. More info and download link are on the TDC site of the demo: Click here

I didn’t even post about it yet on this blog, but I started to remake an old project of mine. Castle Chaos is a classic Jump’n'Run game, what’s there more to say for now? Nothing much, so watch the video:
